Talk on Ignatian Spirituality and Engineering

The Jesuits of Malaysia-Singapore present "Technology, Imagination and Ignatian Spirituality", the third talk in our "Finding God in All Things" series.

We have invited Fr. Philip Chmielewski, SJ, professor and Sir Thomas More Chair at the Frank R. Seaver College of Engineering, Loyola Marymount University to answer the question, "What has engineering got to do with spirituality?" Indeed, how is a discipline that is considered so "material" related to matters of the spirit?

This talk will interest those who are involved in the technological disciplines and wish to learn more about Ignatian spirituality. Come even if you are just curious!

Brief synopsis:

Engineers are professionals who deploy specific knowledge, particular questions, and a special intelligence in service to society. Engineering pursues the safety, health, and welfare of the public.

The structure and dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises by Ignatius Loyola can aid working individuals toward imagining and guiding their professional engineering in the service of the public.Likewise, engineering perspectives and practices can contribute to a better appreciation and fuller grasp of the activities of attention and engagement found in the Spiritual Exercises.

En Route to Montmartre: A Series of Recollections and Prayer Services

In 1534, Ignatius of Loyola, Francis Xavier, Peter Faber, Alfonso Salmeron, Diego Lainez, Nicolas Bobadilla and Simon Rodriguez, walked to a small chapel on Martyr's Hill, Paris where they gave themselves to God and service of the Church. Are you treading the same path?

The Jesuits of Malaysia-Singapore are organizing a series of prayer services and recollections to help young men, like St. Ignatius and his first companions, discern where the Lord is leading them. Open to all male Catholics, 18 to 40 years old.

The recollections and prayer services will be held at the Loyola Jesuit Novitiate, Kingsmead Hall (behind St. Ignatius Church). Eucharist and lunch included. Dates and times are as follows:
