In Memoriam: Fr. Peter Kim Se Mang, SJ

Members of the Society of Jesus mourn the passing of one our brethren. Fr. Peter Kim Se Mang SJ passed away at 5:45 p.m. on 23rd September 2016Friday, in the Intensive Care Unit of Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya. He was 73 years old. He died from a bleeding tumour in the lung.

Fr. Peter Kim was born in Sandakan, Sabah, on the 14th September 1943. He was educated at the Holy Trinity School in Tawau, St. Mary's Secondary School in Sandakan, Sabah College in Kota Kinabalu and the University of Adelaide in South Australia. He entered the Jesuit novitiate in Cheung Chau, Hong Kong on the 14th August 1968 and professed First Vows on the 15th August 1970. After this, he went on to study philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, from 1970 to 1973, and theological studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from 1974 to 1977. He was ordained to the Priesthood on the 10th December 1978 and soon after went for his Tertianship formation in Tokyo and Manila from 1978 to 1979. Fr. Peter Kim made his Final Vows on the 31st July 1982. Some of his assignments were Parish Priest of the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Petaling Jaya, Prefect of Studies in Arrupe International Residence in Manila, for a time period he was assigned to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, started the Community of Arrupe House in Masai in 1999, Myanmar Mission, and Ministry of Writing and Research in Petaling Jaya. 

He will be lying in state at Paul Miki room in the Church of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya, from Saturday morning, 24th September 2016, onwards. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 27th September 2016, in Church of St. Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya. The burial will be at the Holy Family Catholic cemetery, Kajang.

Let us pray in thanksgiving for the life of Fr. Peter Kim, SJ and commend him to the care and love of the Lord.
