Society of Jesus

The Society of Jesus is a Roman Catholic religious order of priests and brothers founded in 1540 by Saint Ignatius of Loyola and his companions.

Members, commonly known as Jesuits, currently number more than 16,000 worldwide.

Jesuits are called to serve the Church and world, especially where the needs are great, and beyond the traditional ministries of the Church.

There are Jesuit parish priests, chaplains, educators, doctors, lawyers, astronomers, playwrights, scientists.
