In January 2020, Father Aloysious suffered a massive stroke while attending a Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) international meeting in Washington DC. The stroke was so acute that he lost movement on the right side of his body. Initially he was hospitalised in Washington DC and subsequently moved to a Jesuit aftercare facility in New York, USA. He was brought back to Malaysia to recover at the end of 2021. He stayed with the Jesuit community in Petaling Jaya with full assisted care until his death.
Father Aloysious was admitted to University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) on 19 February 2024 because he had a seizure and his response was very poor. His condition deteriorated rapidly with his blood pressure low and possible lung infection. He passed away there on 23 February 2024.
